Ahhh, Twitter is growing up! I think this social networking platform has finally reached a new and welcome level. I watched a YouTube video by Chris Pirillo in which he explored some of the features of the new Twitter. I think they might still need a little more work to do before they reach the Facebook level, but I think I’m going to start using Twitter on a much more regular basis, in the least to just keep up with the changes.
Will the New Twitter Make Me a Fan?
For whatever reason, I’ve never really been a big fan of Twitter. In my world, there are three main social networking sites: Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. MySpace has become irrelevant from my marketing perspective. Its great for bands and music-oriented groups, but its taken on a slightly “shady” persona in the last couple of years and isn’t an ideal platform for promoting a business. MySpace has become the red-headed stepchild of the social media explosion. I very rarely get on MySpace anymore.
Facebook is #1 for me. The guys and gals and Facebook have created the ultimate platform that has caught the attention of Hollywood with the upcoming release of The Social Network movie. I think that Facebook has matured into the ultimate social networking site – achieving a superb balance between users and businesses. I love Facebook and I use it on a daily basis.
So where does Twitter fit into all of this? For me, Twitter has always seemed like that quiet kid in the back of the classroom. You just know that he has something to say, but just doesn’t say it. Maybe with the launch of the new Twitter, that kid can finally stand up, shout at the top of his lungs and proclaim, “I am ready to take on the world!” Yes, I think the new Twitter is ready to make a big splash on the social networking scene in a way that had they had previously failed to impress me.
