How to Switch Back to Yahoo Mail Classic

If you don’t like the All-New Yahoo Mail design, you have the option to switch back to the Classic view. It’s actually pretty easy, but the option to do so is hidden away (presumably because Yahoo really doesn’t want you to use the Classic view). After you’ve logged into your Yahoo Mail account, look for the Options link in the upper right-hand portion of the page. When you click on it, a drop-down menu will appear:

Yahoo Mail Classic

Left-click on the “Mail Classic…” option and a new dialog box will appear on the screen asking you to confirm your selection.

Switch to Yahoo Mail Classic

Left-click on the “Switch to Yahoo! Mail Classic” button and you’re all set. Now you’ve switched your account back to the Yahoo Mail Classic view.

UPDATE: I have a new blog post on how to switch back to Yahoo Mail Classic. If you can’t make the steps above work for you, then this new method should would quite well.

Jamie, wish I could thank you like all the rest, but it didn't work for me. I changed my resolution and signed in like you said, but I never got the message saying there was a problem with my resolution. I gave it 15 minutes while I continued to read my email until I got a headache from the screen. Felt like I was sitting in the front row of a wide-screen movie theater. Had to switch it back. I've written 2 messages with feedback to Yahoo, but I doubt it will help. Until then, I will use Jongemain's suggestion, even if I have to memorize the url to put it in every time.

James, thank you so much! I use Google Chrome for all my web browsing, but I'm going to keep Firefox open and use it just for my email. It felt soooooo good to see the classic come back. Thank you so much!!!

I have to add…If you want to forward something while java script is turned off, your email addresses won't show up. So you have to enable java script again.

    Returning to Yahoo Mail Classic

Uninstall Firefox without removing Personal Data and Bookmarks.
Install Firefox 14.0.1. or a version of Firefox that allows the user to Disable JavaScript
Click Tools; Options; Content; Remove Check Mark from Enable JavaScript.
    Click OK.
    Close and Restart Firefox.
    Go to Yahoo Mail.
The following message appears: Yahoo recommends you upgrade your browser to enjoy all the features in the new Yahoo Mail.
    Click Continue without upgrading.
Message appears: JavaScript is not enabled on your browser.
    Click Continue without upgrading JavaScript.
    Yahoo Mail Classic will appear.
JavaScript will be needed to click or remove Check Marks from selection boxes, so Click Tools; Options; Content; and insert a Check Mark in Enable JavaScript.
Enabling JavaScript will not affect Yahoo Mail Classic.
Upgrading Version 14.0.1 to the latest Version of Firefox will not affect Yahoo Mail Classic, although the option to Disable JavaScript will no longer be there in the latest versions.

  45. Mandar Gosavi says:

This is an old way to change the view back to classic. Now If you want to switch back to Classic view back then follow below steps otherwise you will be damn frustrated to by finding the OPTION button on the upper right corner as it will not appear when you are on New yahoo mode.

To change back to Classic view-
    1. On the upper right corner look for one circle symbol next to log out option.

    2. Once you go there then click on settings

    3. In settings 1st option is 'Viewing Mail'

    4. In that option at the bottom there is an option to switch back to Basic.

    I hope this helps others.
