Barter for Website Design?

Yep, you read correctly. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about actively promoting barter as a method of payment for my website design services. My brother does it all the time via Craigslist, so I thought, “Why not?” But, I’m sure there are still plenty of people asking the other question, “Why?”

Barter has been a popular method of payment for thousands of years. Before there was money, there was barter. Barter has never left the public eye, even with the advent of that new-fangled thing called money. Cash is great, but I’ve realized over the last several years that there are lots of small businesses out there that can’t afford my website design services, even though they are extremely affordable when compared to other designers. Cash is tight in this sour economy and that’s why I’ve decided that barter may be a viable alternative.
